Helping Dogs and Cats Stay the Course with Wellness Exams In Kenosha, WI

It doesn’t matter if your pet is young or old. Every dog and cat is likely to live a longer, healthier life when they see their veterinarian at least once a year. At Kenosha Animal Hospital, wellness exams are more than just checkups--they are an opportunity for us to help you give your pet the best life possible. They go beyond the physical exam to include vaccinations, blood testing, parasite prevention, diet recommendations, and much more.

If your pet hasn’t seen their veterinarian in over a year, it might be time for a checkup.

What to Expect During a Typical Wellness Exam

Dogs and cats both need routine wellness visits to stay on schedule with their care and be better equipped to stay healthy.

Wellness exams generally involve:

+ A nose-to-tail exam

A physical exam is the first step in our assessment of your pet’s overall condition. From their eyes and ears to their teeth and toenails, we check for anything unusual, like noticeable weight gain or loss. We also check their major organ systems and record their weight, temperature, and heart rate.
Our hospital uses lab diagnostics to screen your pet for parasites and underlying illness. If any problems are discovered, we can offer suggestions for treatment and prevent those problems from getting worse.
A gap-free medical history is ideal. If your pet sees us regularly for checkups, we’ll be better able to identify potential problems and treat them quickly. Preventing small issues from turning into big ones is one of our primary goals with wellness exams.
Dogs and cats both need vaccines for the protection they provide against rabies and other serious diseases.
Fleas, ticks, and heartworms are some of your pet’s biggest enemies. Both cats and dogs are vulnerable to these pests, unless they have the right protection. At Kenosha Animal Hospital, we recommend year-round coverage for both species to prevent infestations and infections.
We’re happy to answer any questions you have about your pet, and we’ll certainly be asking some of our own so we can get to know them better. Eating habits, behavior, exercise, training, and other topics are best brought up during the wellness exam so we can address them immediately.
